چکیده
The use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an important issue for intensivists, critical care nurses, surgeons, cardiologists, and many others. There has been a continued increase in the number of centres performing ECMO. This review examines novel applications and recent trends in the use of ECMO over the last 2 years. These include ECMO to facilitate the safe use of other treatments, changing the timing of initiation, newer equipment and better biocompatibility, and the ability of ECMO programs to essentially choose which cluster of potential complications they are prepared to accept. ECMO continues to evolve, diversify in its applications, and improve in safety. 1-3

Ketamine infusion for patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support: a case series [version 1; referees: 2 approved]
The use of ketamine infusion for sedation/analgesia in patients receiving extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy has not been described. The aims of this retrospective cohort study were to explore whether ketamine infusion for patients requiring ECMO therapy was associated with altered RASS scores, decreased concurrent sedative or opioid use, or with changes in vasopressor requireme...

Recombinant activated factor VII (rFVIIa) has been approved for treatment of bleeding episodes in patients with hemophilia and in nonhemophilia patients with acquired antibodies against factor VIII or IX. The application of rFVIIa in nonapproved settings, as in cardiac surgery, has not been established. It raises concerns regarding its safety. We used rFVIIa in a patient with excessive nonsurgi...
متن کاملPediatric extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in homozygous sickle cell patient for acute chest syndrome
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation is used in Sickle cell disease patients is unclear. We present a case of a 6 years old girl with homozygous hemoglobin SS disease complicated with chest syndrome. Oxygenation was maintained with two days of VA extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and 30 days of VV ECMO.
متن کاملHemodynamic Transesophageal Echocardiography-Guided Venous-Arterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation Support in a Case of Giant Cell Myocarditis
Giant cell myocarditis (GCM) is a rare and commonly fatal form of fulminant myocarditis. During the acute phase, while immunosuppressive therapy is initiated, venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) support is commonly used as a bridge to heart transplantation or recovery. Until recently, conventional transesophageal echocardiography and transthoracic echocardiography were th...
